"Hello, I’m Kevin! Originally from Ardrossan, I’m a proud Ayrshireman – and there is plenty to be proud of with Robert Burns, William Wallace (...possibly), Robert Bruce, Alexander Fleming, John Boyd Orr, Lord Kelvin, and John ‘Tar’ MacAdam all hailing from my home county of Ayrshire. I studied Archaeology at the University of Glasgow gaining my MA in 2008 and MLitt in Historical Archaeology in 2010. I’m currently taking a break from my part-time PhD to take up my placement at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.
"The Royal Commission has a broad remit and seeks to identify, survey, interpret, and promote Scotland’s Historic environment. We also hold several nationally and internationally significant collections, looking after 15 million Aerial photographs, drawings, and manuscripts. My own placement is within the Survey and Recording department, where I will be working with the Communities team seeking to support grassroots community archaeology and engage a wider audience with Scotland’s rich historic environment. I’m thrilled to be on my placement as it allows me to do what I like best – getting out into the field, meeting lots of people and sharing my passion for Scottish Archaeology. With four field trips to the Highlands already pencilled in for May it looks like I will have a busy year ahead!"
