What do CBA Groups do?
The network of CBA Groups reflect the organisation's aims at the local level:
- providing an information hub for archaeology activity in the area
- offering advice and best practice and influencing decision-makers
- promoting participation and archaeology for all
Discovery
Some Groups carry out research and produce publications, while others hold an annual symposium, rounding up recent research and discoveries in their local area. Many Groups also act as a knowledge centre, providing up-to-date information, resources and services for those interested in archaeology.
Speaking up
Some Group committees and their members get involved in safeguarding heritage in their area, by monitoring and commenting on local planning issues and influencing local decision-makers. They may also offer guidance for community groups on funding applications and good practice.
Participation
Groups run their own events programmes and hands-on training activities for members and everyone interested in finding out more about the archaeology of their area. These include site visits, tours and lectures, as well as study days, day schools and workshops.
Join a CBA Group
Groups welcome new members, for which there is a nominal annual membership fee to support their activities.
Joining your local Group gives you the opportunity to discover more about the archaeology of your local area, and meet like-minded people with a passion for the past.
You can join your local Group when you join us or renew your membership with the CBA. Visit our online shop or call us on 01904 671417.
Getting in touch
If you have skills and expertise to offer the Group's committee, or you would like to volunteer with Group activities and events, contact your local CBA Group direct.
