Archaeologists enter tunnels beneath the Somme Battlefield

The Somme Battle tunnels © BBC News

A team of French and British archaeologists have entered the network of tunnels left untouched for almost 100 years under the Somme Battlefield in northern France. The tunnels were originally dug so that troops could lay explosives below enemy lines. See the BBC website for footage from the exploration.
