Government responds to the 'Stop destruction of British Archaeology' petition

The Government has today released a response to the petition, which currently has over 17,000 signatures. The response provides assurances that there is no intention to damage archaeological protections, however, the CBA remains concerned that Government's reforms will continue to impact upon archaeology.

UK government petitions

The response includes regonition of the public response and a commitment to work with the sector as the Bill is developed. However, a joint statement from CBA, the Chartered Institute for Archaeologist, and Association of Local Government Archaeological Offiers: England have produced a statement expressing continued concern with the direction of government reforms.

We encourage members to express their concern to their MPs and keep up pressure on Government by speaking up as part of the Power of Archaeology campaign.
