The late Douglass Hopkins was a parish priest in the Peterborough Diocese and a canon of the cathedral, but architecture and archaeology were his life-long passion. His extensive collection of books has been made available to buy for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
His knowledge and enthusiasm for these subjects was put to the test in the 1930s when as a young priest in his first parish he objected to the approved design for a new church, and took responsibility for the design and building of the new parish church Holy Trinity in Millhouses, Sheffield. Latterly he lectured and took field trips for the The Workers’ Educational Association, building an enthusiastic group of students over the years.
