Tyne and Wear Budget Consultation

The CBA has responded to a proposed budget cut to Tyne and Wear Specialist Conservation Team by Gateshead Council (see letter below). This is a joint service that gives archaeological advice to Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland Councils.

Gateshead Council are proposing to reduce their contribution to the service by 50% - approximately £11,000 a year. It is not yet clear exactly which parts of the service will be cut, or reduced. However, if the cuts are implemented they are likely to have a significant affect on archaeology provision in Gateshead.
