Archaeology out there - Council for British Archaeology

Archaeology Matters

Protecting our heritage

We are a leading advocate for the protection and investigation of the historic environment. Working with partner organisations in the heritage sector, we aim to maximise the protection of the UK’s historic environment by influencing public policy and legislative reform.

The CBA's role

The Council for British Archaeology brings together the views of professionals and the voluntary sector in archaeology throughout the UK. We represent these interests to Government and to policy makers. We work together with others to ensure there are opportunities for everyone to learn about and care for their heritage and to take part in understanding and protecting it.

Our campaigning for archaeological heritage highlights its public value, empowers local stewardship and ensures environmental sustainability. We also encourage our members to play their part in protecting the historic environment and our volunteers help us take forward our casework to safeguard listed buildings.

Your role
