Archaeology lives - Council for British Archaeology

There are many ways you can help the Council for British Archaeology. Your donation will help us to understand, preserve and promote our archaeology and heritage for today and for future generations.

For us to do more and achieve more it is vital that we grow our income and regular giving is one way of doing this. You can give as much as you want and at whatever intervals you like. Regular giving is particularly important to support important projects like the Young Archaeologists' Club, which needs regular income to help us to sustain and develop its activities to reach more children with a love of archaeology.

If all of our supporters were to give £5 a month we could raise £350,000 each year towards supporting our work to protect and share archaeology.

There are different ways to donate to us through regular donations.

  • You can set up a Standing Order, on an annual, 6 monthly, quarterly or monthly basis. The choice is yours. We have developed a standing order form which you can download, complete and return to us.
  • Send a free text to ARCH11 followed by the amount you wish to donate, either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070, eg 'ARCH11 10' Just Text Giving.

Dig Deep for YAC

The Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) is part of the Council for British Archaeology. The CBA, like many organisations and charities, is facing a challenging financial future. The withdrawal of its main source of public funding has had a major impact on the organisation’s finances. The CBA has previously subsidised YAC for both the YAC UK membership package and the YAC Branch network but this is no longer possible. We have secured short term, tapering funds from English Heritage to continue to support YAC Branches, and we are hugely grateful for this.

The YAC Branches offer a fantastic range of opportunities for young people to get into archaeology. In 2013 there were 60 Branches in the YAC network, run by some 560 volunteers. Over the year, our volunteers delivered 588 activity sessions which provided some 7, 800 opportunities for young people. We estimate that this equates to a massive 4,800 days of volunteer time across the whole network in one year!

We are determined to keep giving those brilliant volunteers the support they need, through training, advice and resources. To do this, we have created the Dig Deep For YAC fundraising campaign.

  • £10 allows us to recruit a new volunteer leader
  • £20 pays for a Child Protection course
  • £50 provides an annual grant to a Branch
  • £100 puts a volunteer through First Aid Training
